4J Basketball is a 501 (c)(3) organization that uses basketball as a medium to teach life principles. Our mission is to lead men from court players to life ballers in order to help them reach their full potential. Our league goals are to promote and improve the mental and physical health of men by way of basketball and resource fairs to help them and their families.
4J currently serves men, women and children in Flint, Michigan where the median income is under $29,000 and the per capita income is less than $17,500. With a poverty rate of 38.8%, participants typically have limited or no resources.
Our organization is supported entirely by private donations and fundraising efforts. We are in partnership with Flint Community Schools, Living Your Best Life Ministies (LYBLM) and the Crim Foundation a primary providers of gymnasium facilities for the 4J Basketball leagues to meet and train. These partners also sponsor games. Other partners include Involved Dads, Share the Keys and life coaches Dr. Kirk Whitmore and Shon Hart.
Beyond basketball, 4J has hosted job fairs, vendor events, water giveaways and raffles that include cash prizes, gift baskets and televisions.
